What does your result mean?

The five levels at a glance

The levels A1 to C2 come from the Common European Framework of Reference. They describe what you can actually do in the language – not how many words you know.

A1 – First knowledge of German

You can introduce yourself, ask and answer simple questions and make yourself understood in everyday life using individual sentences.

A2 – Basic knowledge

You can handle many everyday situations in the language: shopping, appointments, short conversations at the authorities and the doctor’s.

B1 – Independent use of the language

You can make yourself understood in almost all everyday situations. B1 is the level for DTZ, telc B1, residence and naturalisation.

B2 – Good knowledge of German

You understand more demanding texts and express yourself fairly confidently on a range of topics – the level for working life.

C1 – Very good knowledge of German

You understand complex linguistic structures and have an extensive vocabulary – the level for study and academic professions.

C2 – Very high command of the language

You communicate effortlessly and understand practically everything. At C2 it is about style, idiom and fine differences in meaning. The test no longer measures this level – we look at it together in the introductory call.

This test is a first orientation and does not replace an official placement or language test. For an exact placement we talk in the free introductory call about what you can already do and what you want to achieve.
